A wall-mounted charge point, done properly

Most domestic installs are a single-phase 7 kW charge point, wall-mounted by your parking space, wired back to a dedicated circuit at the consumer unit and finished with an IP65-rated outdoor enclosure so it stands up to the weather. Where a property has a three-phase supply, a 22 kW unit is an option, though most domestic sockets and vehicles will never draw the full rate.

We fit a Mode 3 charger with a Type 2 connector — tethered or untethered, your choice — and set it up with smart, app-connected scheduling so you can charge overnight on a cheaper tariff without thinking about it. The electrical work is the part that actually matters here: a dedicated circuit, correctly rated protection, and an earthing solution suited to your supply, all tested and certified before we hand it back.

Put more than a handful of charge points on one supply and it stops being a "fit a charger" job and becomes a power-distribution problem. We're an electrical contractor with sub-mains and distribution board experience, so we design the supply properly — dynamic load management shares the available capacity across every bay in real time, adding chargers to a car park or apartment block without an expensive supply upgrade in most cases.

We work with facilities managers, property managers and housing associations on offices, retail units, apartment blocks and communal car parks, coordinating access, isolations and any communal-wiring checks so the install fits around how the building is actually used.

What actually decides the install

The electrical-supply questions that matter

Your existing consumer unit or distribution board. We check whether there's a free way to add a dedicated circuit, and whether the board itself is in good enough condition to take one. An old or overloaded board sometimes needs attention before a charger goes anywhere near it.

Your earthing arrangement. This is the one most installers skip over and it's not optional. A PME (TN-C-S) supply — the most common type in London — needs either an open-PEN protection device at the charge point or a separate earth electrode, because BS 7671 doesn't allow a PME earth to be exported to an outdoor charge point without one. A TN-S supply can usually take the charger's own earth directly. A TT supply needs its own RCD-protected earth electrode regardless. We identify which one your property has before we design anything.

Your available load. We calculate the demand already on your supply — cooking, heating, an immersion heater, any existing high-draw circuits — against the rating of your incoming supply, typically 100 A for a domestic property, before adding a charger on top. If the sums don't work for a single charger at full rate, we can usually solve it with load management rather than a supply upgrade.

Get these three right and everything else — the charger rating, the RCD protection (Type A or Type B, chosen to suit the charger), the cable route, the mounting position — falls into place. Get them wrong and you end up with a charger that trips, or one that isn't actually safe. We survey all three before we quote, not after.

Commissioning, testing & certification

We test the circuit, commission the charger and hand over an Electrical Installation Certificate, so the paperwork is done before we leave.
